North Idaho Winter Ku

moon full, ground covered
in new snow, backyard ensnared
in plumtree’s shadow

Is that sunlight
pouring through fluffy clouds
or a mirror in the sky?

A few hours later:
must’ve been clouds—the ground
hasn’t turned blue.

Not spring yet
but snow is melting.  Indoors
it’s rainy season.

Hey who’s the Einstein
put a flat roof on a house
in North Idaho?!

Snow melts, revealing
scattered debris and a pile
of asphalt shingles.

Snow about gone,
day temps above freezing,
birches still bare.

Robins fly up from the south;
bunnies and doe come out
from under my house.

Indian winter:
air full of snow,
land full of mud.

Every year:  It’s Spring!
It’s Spring!—and along comes
one more good snowfall.
