Big Party in a Small Place

A crowd of people at a party

all talking at once,

in fragments of conversations,

as ideas are squelched in interruptions

of new voices.

Piano playing and singing

in the next room are drowned,

coming across as gestures, smiles

and mouthed words;

intentions to be presented are lost

in milling bodies

as the heat and volume rises.

Introverts leave early;

God knows better

and with one eye open

stayed home.
