The Love Poem Starting Over

Let not the word Death enter even once.

Stay the old companion cold at the door,

Hungering. Let the new ode sing itself,

And no Reaper’s chorus or dark refrain.

Let only melody and brightened eyes

And lilting words find their way to the room

Where the lovers discover love again,

a lyric older, wiser, but as drunk.
