Winners & Losers Philip
Seymour Hoffman thanked his, who’d raised 4 children alone and took him to
his first play, and an Argentinian winner thanked “mi madre.” One beauty
tripped and Lauren Bacall, maybe 2 years my senior, walked very slowly and
couldn’t find words on the screen or in her mind. I sat in my stressless chair
worrying about my numb feet. Why do I want to live. Don’t ask
questions like that.
2 fat ladies block the frozen foods aisle, I go around them,
grab brown rice, live.
Birds because it’s just about spring but my loser Japanese
maple may never get leaves.
I’ll say it: I don’t
want to be the one thanked, I want to be the one
thanking. Phyllis Koestenbaum |
