 Perhaps in Spring

Perhaps in spring

a short distance from stardust

the fragrance of tangerine blossoms

The subject of my daydream

while sitting in sunlight

letting myself think

I belonged to this enchanted world

and there I would remain

In a house of staircases and mirrors

a mural of watery Venice floating

above the furniture and large red cushions

strewn by the fireplace where a body

could drift for hours listening

to the music of water

lapping against ancient stones

of buildings with golden spires

Could I somehow return

to this Garden of Earthly Delights

even within the confines of a lifetime

in which I was born too late

as if that would make a difference?

Perhaps in spring

as the song of my daydream

lingers and reminds me

I should never think of spring

for that would surely break

my heart in two
