 The Day the Drought Ended

He had gone suddenly

Up to snow country.

Nobody knew, and then, nobody knew why.

His body was brought back to the valley

To a region that’s never known snow,

Yet snow began to fall over Fred’s open grave.

Soon the valley too was covered with snow.

That following Sunday I went to church

To pray for brother Fred’s soul

And there, programs were handed out that read:

“Tho your sins be as scarlet

They shall be as white as snow.”

He had gone suddenly

Up to snow country.

Nobody knew, and then, nobody knew why.
